What is the best way (both cost and energy consumption) to heat a small office by electricity?
I have been looking at halogen, convector heaters and oil filled radiators and am not sure which was to go
Bottom line is, whatever the heating appliance, the heat energy is determined by its power consumption. The greater, the better. However, I’d go for a convection heater for a couple of reasons. They are quiet, they don’t produce noise, they heat up instantly, they can be positioned anywhere, the are not super hot to the touch, they keep air circulating around the office (through convection). Standard power consumption per heater is around 2kW which is enough for a room about 10ft x 10ft.

Stiebel Eltron DHC-E 8/10 Tankless Electric Water Heater $229 • Electronically controlled water temperature New! • Up to 50% less electric consumption compared to storage type heaters• Hot water instantly • Exclusive built-in scald guard thermostatMedium electric tankless water heater This heater will do one low volume shower at a time and no other uses while the shower is in progress. The DHC-E tankless electric water heater differs from convention storage type water heaters in several ways. It does not store hot water. Instead, water is heated instantaneously as it flows through the unit. Due to the absence of stand-by losses, the DHC-E offers greater energy efficiency than storage type water heaters. The input of heat into the water is electronically controlled. The DHC-E tankless water heater will deliver any water temperature between 86 °F (30 °C) and 125 °F (52 °C). The desired temperature can be set using the knob on the front cover. The LED displays the temperature that the unit will produce. For warm climate applications only. This water heater can do a shower when incoming water is 70°F. Specifications |

Sustainable Energy Production and Consumption $72 This volume is a result of the NATO Advanced Research Workshop that took place in Naples, Italy on July 4 through 7 of 2007. The workshop brought together the top researchers in energy technology, energy analysis, energy economics, and environmental economics from NATO countries, partner countries and Mediterranean Action countries. The book, like the meeting itself, deals with very crucial aspects of the energy/environmental/social problem such as energy and economic growth, integrated analysis of societal and ecosystem metabolism, status, development and use of renewable energy sources at regional level, and zero emission production patterns in agriculture, industry and the energy sectors. The authors treat in depth all the aspects linked to evaluation methods, multidisciplinary integration of approaches, economic problems of energy use, competition of bioenergy with food production and environmental protection, peak oil and strategies to deal with, trade and societal metabolism. The close interrelationship of these topics emerges very clearly. So much so that the presentations definitely help to place the individual projects and research activities within a larger societal and environmental frame for increased sustainability. Special focus is placed on the fact that increase of renewables, diversification of sources, and decentralization of energy production and use are capable of increasing energy security and environmental integrity. |

Energy $77 Energy: We want it affordable, we want it available in ample quantities and from reliable sources, and we want it to be produced and used in ways that are safe and environmentally benign. In other words, we want plenty of energy too cheap to meter and with no impact on the environment. Ha! With a refreshing lack of bias, this book dissects all major sources of energy, from oil and coal to renewables like solar and wind power. In an easy, understandable style, energy expert Joseph Dukert explains how each fits into the overall global energy mix that powers everything from automobiles and appliances to assembly lines and space stations. As Dukert details, all energy sources have pluses and minuses. Those who champion any single energy source (or even energy efficiency by itself) as the sole answer to our energy problems are off track, he argues, as are the cynics who condemn one source or another or pooh-pooh the threat of global warming. In short, we need every significant source of energy we have today, while also making greater efforts to improve the efficiency of energy production and energy consumption. Dukert also explores the choices made by individuals, businesses, and society as each group juggles conflicting, interconnected factors: affordability, reliability, adequacy of supply, environmental concerns, and time. In explaining why there's no magic bullet solution to the energy crisis, the author blends simple technical descriptions, economics, and real-world politics. Besides providing a cogent overview of a huge–and hugely important–industry, this short, comprehensive volume helps readers decide for themselves which choices are in their best interest. As Dukert suggests, energy independence is probably not a realistic goal for any country, but the search for a dynamic, practical energy balance can nonetheless result in a wiser national energy policy. |

Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Consumption $85 This book challenges conventional wisdom by showing how, in some circumstances, improved energy efficiency may increase energy consumption. Relying upon energy efficiency to reduce carbon emissions could therefore be misguided. This book explores the broader implications for climate change and sustainable consumption. |

Energy Consumption in Industry, 2000 $51 This publication presents annual energy consumption data in manufacturing sectors. Over the last 25 years, energy consumption has become just as important as energy supply for policy makers. There is a need for energy efficiency indicators and data to monitor developments in energy consumption and energy efficiency trends as they affect the environment. In order to analyse energy use and energy efficiency, it is essential to have disaggregated industry level consumption data. This publication provides such data. Time series of annual energy consumption are provided at the disaggregated manufacturing industry level for most of the OECD countries from 1990 to 1999 where available. Also published as Volume 2 of the publication in 2 volumes entitled Structural Statistics for Iindustry and Services. Volume 1 of the series includes Core Data. The Structural Statistics for Industry and Services database is also available on CD-ROM and on line at www.sourceoecd.org. For further information, please consult: www.oecd.org/std/indserv |

Optimum Omega-3 Fish Oil $5.99 “Optimum fish oil is a natural supplement filled with Omega-3 essential fatty acids. Fatty acids are the basis of fats and oils, and, despite popular belief, are necessary for overall health. These fatty acids are termed “”essential”" because your body cannot manufacture them by itself. EFA’s must come from food or supplemental sources. They are also essential because they are a component of every living cell in the body, and are necessary for rebuilding existing cells and the production of new cells. Studies show fish oil supports healthy heart function and joint flexibility.” |

An Energy Analysis of Household Consumption $97.98 The book takes a socio-economic approach to analyzing the energy system and energy consumption in India from a household perspective. In doing so, it views households as the ultimate end-consumers and estimates and analyzes the direct and indirect energy requirements of household consumption, both at an aggregate national level as well as for individuals or groups of households. In addition, the work incorporates two crucial aspects often ignored by many traditional modelling approaches that are characteristic of most developing countries, namely the importance of non-commercial sources of energy, mostly biofuels, in the energy systems of these countries, and the very large diversity in the patterns of energy use across households with widely diverging lifestyles and levels of well being. Adopting a household perspective allows for analyzing how energy use patterns and consumption patterns are linked with the quality of life of individual households or persons and provides a novel view of the energy system and development in India. The work makes a first step in identifying key driving forces and some important trends in technical, economic, demographic, and lifestyles changes that are having an impact on the patterns and use of energy within the country, covering a time horizon of the last couple of decades. |
